THE AGONY OF GETHSEMANE
4/5/2026
Text: Hebrews 12:2, 3
Theme: Christ’s suffering was for you.
The idea of this message would be to focus on the agony that
overcame Christ as He took on our sins
The agony didn’t start on the cross… (Mark 14:18-36; John 12:27)
Then on the cross…
John 19:1 (they) scourged him. Mat 27:28 they stripped him...
John 19:2 the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his
head, and they put on him a purple robe, John 19:3 And said, Hail,
King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands. Mat 27:30
And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the
head. Mark 15:20 And when they had mocked him, they took off
the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him
out to crucify him. John 19:15 … they cried out, Away with him,
away with him, crucify him.
After all this His first statement from the cross… “…Father, forgive
them; for they know not what they do...”
IF we would CALL THE EVENTS of the final week in the life of Christ
A TRAGEDY we would be merely speaking from a human
perspective… (Heb 12:2,3)
Christ’s sacrifice was for…
Your salvation… the penalty for sin (Heb 2:9, 10; 1 Cor 1:18)
Your victorious living… the power over sin (Rom 7:24, 25)
