The purpose of guilt is to bring a person to reconciliation with God
I. How forgiveness works (vv. 1-4)
Compare vv. 1 & 2 w/ 3 & 4
Forgiven – to lift up and carry away
Forgiveness lifts the burden
Guilt stays under the burden
Guilt and guile… only one letter different and often go together
II. Why forgiveness works (vv. 5-11)
“The iniquity of my sin” – the guilt of my sin, the punishment of my sin
The forgiven are the righteous and upright in heart
Remember, God’s forgiveness is based on who He is, not who you are… God’s ways are not our ways. Isaiah 55:7-9
