Sermon 3: Facing Our Fears

Text: Psalm 34:7-11

Theme: Keys to replacing the fear of man with a fear of God.

Prov 29:25 The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.

David writes Psalm 34 recognizing that he was fearing man, but not fearing God

At that time all the weight of the burdens were on David’s shoulders – he had to come up with ways to save his own life

Psalm 34 compares a fear of man alongside of a fear of God

? What does it look like to fear the Lord?

I. The fear of man bringeth a snare (1 Sam 19-21)

David was motivated and controlled by the fear of man

II. The fear of the Lord bringeth deliverance ((vv. 7-11)

The fear of the Lord is accompanied by trusting the Lord (v. 8) and seeking the Lord (v. 10)

The fear of the Lord comes in part by how you view God, but it also includes how you view yourself
