2 Samuel 13 & 14

Being a father isn’t easy.  The three leading men of the books of Samuel are all three spiritual leaders, but none of them were good fathers… Eli, Samuel and David

Are you an absentee father that’s sometimes an authoritarian or even sometimes passive?

2 Samuel 13 & 14 seem to expose some of the weaknesses of David’s parenting (13:7, 20-23, 38, 39)

Solomon the son of David seems more engaged in the parenting of his children (Prov 1:8, 10; 10:1; 17:2; 19:18; 23:26)

The special commodity of a father isn’t some great skill set or intellectual aptitude – it is time… it’s being there

Practical tips:

Don’t take your phone to the table

Don’t spend time on your phone when you could be spending time with your children

Don’t spend more time disciplining your children than you do teaching and training them

Be willing to spend more time getting a job done by allowing the hands of your children to be involved

If your work has you too tired to be a dad, then look for another job

What’s your dream – to be the best husband & dad you can be or to be the best employee you can be?

You don’t have to be away to be an absentee father
