Psalm 141

Parenting – The Value of Reproof

11/30/2025 - Morning Worship

Text: Psalm 141:3-5

Theme: Correction is good for the change of our children.

Introduction verses: Luke 17:1-4; Gal. 6:1; Heb. 3:13; 10:24, 25

What is the one point I am trying to get across?

THE GOAL OF PARENTING – CHANGING THE HEART, NOT PUNISHING THE BEHAVIOR

First, let’s understand the verse (Psa 141:5)

David not only depended on the Lord to help him to change (vv. 3, 4), but also he depended upon his friends to say the right things to help him change – let’s apply to parenting

[ Spurgeon, “It needs great grace to give reproofs aright, but it needs more to take them aright.”

Lev 19:17 Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.

Reprove – show what it right & convince what is wrong

1. Parents often pick the fruit of behavior…

2. Parents often try to change the child’s activity w/o changing the child’s heart

3. Parents often make more rules when a child has already proven themselves to be a rule-breaker
