ACTS 12 – PRAYER AND THE WILL OF GOD

The Book of Acts
Text: Acts 12:1-17
Theme: What happens when God’s people pray?
James was the first martyred apostle. Interestingly, his brother,
John, outlived them all and was the only one not to be martyred
When discussing God’s sovereignty often the word providence
becomes part of the discussion. Are they the same? (Psa 115:3; Isa
46:10; Acts 2:23; 3:13; Job 13:15)
The prayer was made by the Church before Peter’s deliverance
(Acts 12:1-6).
? How does prayer impact the sovereign decisions of God?
? The Lord intervened so that Peter wasn’t killed. Why didn’t
He intervene for James?
Be very careful when instructing others about the sovereignty
of God. It looks a lot easier when you aren’t hurting and when
the trial isn’t
? Would James have lived if the Church prayed for him?
? Do your prayers change the sovereignty of God?
LAM 3:37: Who is he that saith, and it cometh to pass, when
the Lord commandeth it not?
? Why pray if God’s will is already determined?
