Truths about speaking in tongues
1. It was speaking a known language unknown to the one speaking
2. Not every Christian spoke in tongues (1Co 12:30)
3. If someone spoke in tongues it must be interpreted (1 Cor 14:28)
4. Many people were not to speak in tongues (1 Cor 14:27)
5. Speaking in tongues was not the greatest gift (1 Cor 14:5)
1Co 14:19 Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.
Speaking in tongues in Acts
Reading your Bible you can find the three occurrences: Acts 2:9-11; 10:44-46; 19:6
Reading a chronological Bible you can see how many years apart these occurrences were: 30, 37 & 54 AD
To understand when tongues “shall cease” you have to understand what was the purpose of tongues
The Holy Spirit enabled them to be witnesses to all nations and people
