ACTS 2 – THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

8/31/2025-Sunday School

Lesson 6: The Book of Acts

Text: Acts 2:1-13

Theme: The empowerment of the Church by the Holy Spirit.

The events of chapter 2

The power of the Holy Spirit (vv. 1-13)

The preaching of Pentecost (vv. 14-47)

The ministry of the Holy Spirit in believers

Indwelling of the Spirit – The Holy Spirit constantly abides in the believer beginning at the point of salvation

Filling of the Spirit – may be used in two ways

The filling of the Holy Spirit to empower the believer for service (Acts 2:4)

The filling of the believer by allowing the Holy Spirit to control your life (Eph 5:18)

Baptism of the Spirit – may be used in two ways

The baptism of the believer at the point of conversion into the body of Christ (1 Cor 12:13)

The influence of the Holy Spirit on the believer for the purpose of spreading the Gospel (Acts 1:5, 8)

I personally believe that all three of these are seen on the day of Pentecost

These disciples were immersed in the power of the Holy Spirit when He filled them – THE HOLY SPIRIT WAS EMPOWERING THEM FOR THE SPREADING OF THE GOSPEL

What is “speaking in tongues”?

1. It is a result of the Holy Spirit’s empowerment

2. It is for the spreading of the Gospel to the Jews

3. It is the Holy Spirit giving a person the ability to speak in a known language which is unknown by the person speaking
