Timing of the New Testament
The Gospels (history of Christ)
The events of the Gospel cover the time period of 4 BC to 30 AD
Acts (history of the Church)
30-63 AD
Epistles (doctrines of Christ and His teachings)
Half were written during the books of Acts, while the rest were written over the next 35 years
Revelation (prophetic history of future events)
Purpose of the New Testament
Purpose of the Gospels – to reveal the Gospel of Jesus Christ
Matthew – Jews – Jesus is King
Mark – Romans – Jesus is a perfect servant
Luke – Greeks – Jesus the perfect man
John – World – Jesus is God
Purpose of the book of Acts
To show how Christ took the Gospel to the world through the Church
Purpose of the Epistles
To explain: the person, life and teachings of Christ
Purpose of Revelation
To reveal God’s plan for the world at the end of the age
