When you trust in the Lord, you have to guard against your own tendencies (1 Sam 18:5-30)

Dual themes to look for: “The Lord is with him” & “David behaved himself wisely”

David would later have two opportunities to take Saul’s life, but refused to do so in 1 Samuel 24 & 26

Do people recognize that the Lord is with you?

Is the Lord solving your problems or are you handling them?

When you trust in the Lord, you have to guard against the advice of others (2 Sam 16)

David learned that he not only had to wisely handle his enemies, but he also had to wisely handle his friends
