You might say that Proverbs is God’s parenting book to us. What would you say if I told you the writer himself often failed to keep his own instruction?
Solomon was the wisest man in the highest position and still failed to restrain himself
I. God chose you to parent because you understand the need to teach your child where your child’s greatest temptations will come from (Prov 24:16)
Everything that Solomon warned his son about he struggled with himself.
II. God chose you to parent because you understand the need to teach your child after they fall to get back up again (Prov 24:16; 1 Kings 11:1-6; Psa 37:23, 24)
Solomon later in his life would fall to the same kind of strange women that he warned his son about
God didn’t choose parents to raise children because they are perfect. God has chosen us as parents to raise our children because we know what it is to fail and to get back up again
Young people – God didn’t chose your parents to parent you because they were perfect, but because they have learned lessons that you will also need to learn
