This morning we will be talking about two of the “institutions” that
God has ordained/started – living organisms
We live in what is called the “Church age”
What kind of growth are we looking for?
I. The maturing, strengthening of the body (vv. 1-4, 11-16)
The Church is also called a “body” (4:4, 16)
Earlier in Ephesians it is called a building (2:21,22)
Later it is referred to as the bride (5:23-32)
Key phrases:
Perfecting of the saints (v. 12)
Till we all come in the unity (v. 13)
Speaking the truth in love (v. 15)
Grow up into Him (v. 15)
The whole body fitly joined together (v. 16)
II. Leadership that helps the body reach its potential (vv. 11, 12)
Plurality of elders is taught in the NT: Titus 1:5; 1 Peter 5:1-3
